Frequently asked questions

As soon as I try to install my filters, the installation program asks me for my serial number.  Where to I get this number?

The serial number for your digital B+W filters can be found on the registration card which you received when you purchased the software.

I have installed the filters, but they do not appear on my Photoshop filter menu.  What should I do?

Make sure that your plug-in folders are in the right place.  (Example: in Photoshop 7. 0 for Windows, a typical storage area is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop_7. 0\Supplementary_modules. ) Check to see whether the filters were installed in this or another appropriate folder of your image editing program.

I opened a photo and would like to use a filter, but the B+W filters on the Filter menu are grayed out, and cannot be called up.  What must I do differently?

Your picture has probably been saved in 16-bit-per-channel mode, or it may contain indexed colors. In order to use the filters, you must convert the photo to 8-bit-per-channel or RGB color mode. On the menu "Image," select the menu item "Mode, and choose RGB and the 8-bit-per-channel mode.

To install my B+W filters, do I have to use the installation program supplied, or can I simply copy the program onto my hard disk?

So that your filters work smoothly, you must use the installation program use and enter your serial number there.  Do not move the filters to another folder; otherwise they cannot be called up from the Photoshop Filter menu, and have to be re-installed.

Where can I get technical support for the B+W filters?

Registered users of B+W filters can receive technical support from the following address:  digifilter@schneiderkreuznach.com

Why does it take so long with some photos until the filter for a photo is calculated?

The image is in Lab or CMYK mode, both of which require long calculation times. Convert it to RGB color mode. In Photoshop, on the "Image" menu move to the menu item "Mode" and select RGB Color and the 8-bit-per-channel mode.
